Department of Behavioral Health
Welcome to the Department of Behavioral Health at Living the Dream University. Our mission is to support the emotional, social, and behavioral well-being of every student and staff member in our community. Through a range of specialized services and programs, we aim to create a safe and nurturing environment where individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities can thrive.
The Department of Behavioral Health exists to support the emotional, social, and behavioral well-being of every student at Living the Dream University. Because our students have diverse needs, we take a holistic and proactive approach to care that helps them succeed both in and out of the classroom.
What We Do:
-
Provide Mental Health Support – Students have access to psychologists and licensed counselors who offer therapy, crisis support, and individualized care plans.
-
Behavioral Assessment & Intervention – Our Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) design evidence-based strategies to help students manage behaviors, build independence, and reach their personal goals.
-
Skill Development – The department teaches coping skills, social communication strategies, and conflict resolution, so students feel more confident in academic, social, and daily living environments.
-
Collaboration Across Campus – Our professionals work closely with academic instructors, residential staff, and families to ensure that each student’s behavioral and emotional needs are integrated into their overall educational experience.
Why We Employ Psychologists, Licensed Counselors, and BCBAs:
-
Psychologists provide psychological assessments, therapy, and support for complex emotional and cognitive needs.
-
Licensed Counselors offer accessible day-to-day counseling and guidance to help students manage stress, relationships, and life transitions.
-
Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) bring expertise in behavior modification and individualized intervention strategies tailored to students with developmental, intellectual, or behavioral challenges.
Behavior Response Team (BRT):
The BRT is a specially trained team available to respond quickly to behavioral crises or escalations. Instead of relying on punitive measures, the BRT uses de-escalation techniques, trauma-informed care, and positive behavior supports to ensure safety for the student and the campus community. Their goal is not only to resolve the moment but also to teach coping strategies and prevent future crises.

Comprehensive Counseling Services
Our team of licensed therapists and counselors provide individual and group therapy sessions tailored to the unique needs of each student. We offer support in managing stress, developing coping skills, and enhancing interpersonal relationships.

Social Skills Development
Through workshops and social activities, students have the opportunity to practice and improve their social skills in real-life settings. Our goal is to foster a sense of belonging and community, empowering individuals to build meaningful connections.

Behavioral Intervention Programs
We implement evidence-based behavioral interventions to address challenging behaviors and promote positive changes. Our approach focuses on proactive strategies, skill-building, and reinforcement techniques to support students in achieving their goals.
